Aleo, a privacy-focused blockchain platform that enables zero-knowledge applications, has announced that it is nearing the completion of its testnet phase and plans to launch its mainnet by the end of 2023. The mainnet launch will mark a significant milestone for the project, as it will allow developers to deploy and execute their own Leo applications on the Aleo network.
Leo allows developers to write zkApps in a simple and intuitive way
Leo is a programming language designed for writing zero-knowledge applications, or zkApps, that can run on the Aleo Virtual Machine (AVM). zkApps are applications that can perform private computations and transactions without revealing any sensitive information to the network or third parties. Leo allows developers to write zkApps in a simple and intuitive way, without having to deal with the complexity of zero-knowledge proofs.
Combines Proof of Stake (PoS) and Proof of Succinct Work (PoSW)
The Aleo network is powered by a novel consensus mechanism called AleoBFT, which combines Proof of Stake (PoS) and Proof of Succinct Work (PoSW). PoS enables validators to stake their Aleo credits (ALEO) and produce blocks, while PoSW enables provers to solve coinbase puzzles and earn rewards. AleoBFT aims to achieve high scalability, security, and decentralization for the network.
Three phased release
According to the project’s roadmap, Aleo Testnet 3 will be released across three phases: Phase 1 for developers, Phase 2 for provers, and Phase 3 for validators. The project has already completed Phase 1 and 2, and is currently working on Phase 3, which will introduce AleoBFT and multi-signature wallets. The project also launched a bug bounty program to encourage hackers and enthusiasts to test the security and robustness of the network.
Once the testnet phase is over, Aleo will launch its mainnet, which will be fully decentralized and independent of its founding company, Aleo Systems. The company stated that it will relinquish all control of the network and its governance to the community upon mainnet launch. The company also said that it will continue to support the development and innovation of the platform and the ecosystem
