
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has a digital policy that aims to make the country a top digital economy in the next 10 years. Dubai, the chief city recently played host to top Web3 players.
The government of Dubai has been working towards making the city a Web3 hub through its Digital Dubai project. Digital Dubai is an initiative of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President & Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai. Its objective is to oversee the city’’s information technology development and coordinate all matters related to digital data transformation and cyber security.
Report from the future
The organization recently hosted an exclusive event in partnership with Animoca Ventures. The exclusive event was titled ‘Reports from the Future : Dubai’ and was held on February 8 at the Dubai Design District office of Digital Dubai. The exclusive event was targeted at investors in the space. The event is part of the organization’s strategic plan to attract potential investors in the Web3 space.
The event also wants to attract top talents that would create opportunities for Dubai-based businesses using cutting-edge technology.
The participants were mainly web3 industry leaders known for their innovative exploits within the space. Some of these global leaders made presentations to investors on the prospects and use cases of the industry. Some of the topics include metaverse use cases, blockchain gaming, Omni chain future, data convergence, open finance and more.
Imparting lives with advanced digital technology
While delivering his address during the well-attended session Dr. Marwan Al Zarouni, Strategic Advisor at Digital Dubai, said:
“Digital Dubai is entrusted with the mission to digitize every aspect of life for people in the emirate, making their lives easier and happier with advanced technology and Digital services. To that end, we take every opportunity to explore emerging technologies and partner with entities and companies who are making strides in these sectors, with the aim of bringing startups and investors to the city and making Dubai the digital capital of the world.”
He added that the collaboration with Animoca Ventures has moved the organization a step closer to realizing its objectives of accelerating the Digital Economy ambitions of the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33). The essence of the D33 is to double the size of the country’s economy in the next 10 years.
Dr. Marwan Al Zarouni said that the event will also contribute to Dubai’s metaverse strategy which aims to make the city one of the top 10 metaverse economies in the world.
Informing the most innovative companies
James Ho, Head of Animoca Ventures, while delivering the closing remarks said that the workshop attracted some of the top leaders in the Web3 space. He added that it gave the attendees rare insight into the digital plans of the UAE. According to him,
“This workshop brought together many of the most innovative companies in Web3 and imparted the best possible information and insights to our attendees. Animoca Ventures works at the forefront of ecosystem building and investing in Web3 and the metaverse. We see these technologies as driving the future of marketing, gaming, commerce, and many other sectors.”
Some of the prominent web3 companies in attendance were LayerZero Labs, SupraOracles, Conducive.ai, Brinc, Move.ai and Amulet Protocol.
Others are Bit.Country, a metaverse as a service platform and several blockchain gaming companies such as MetaKing Studios, Xterio, Planetarium, Revolving Games and SIDUS Heroes.
