The cross-chain NFT platform Magic Eden has announced free mint for a number of Web3 gaming projects. The so-called ‘Mint Madness’ began on Friday, March 3, with Planet Mojo leading the way on the Polygon blockchain.
The free mint has been introduced by the NFT platform to encourage gaming platforms to join the Web3 space. The move is expected to benefit the gaming platforms in several ways, such as by opening up their platforms to gamers within the crypto community. Magic Eden said that it is willing to support these gaming platforms as they foray into the Web3 and NFT spaces.
Magic Eden will invest in gaming projects
Furthermore, the Magic Eden team announced that it is investing in 11 gaming studios, the first time that the company is doing so.
Chris Akhavan, Chief Gaming Officer at Magic Eden, said,
“We’ve observed that many games entering Web3 do not necessarily need to use NFTs as a monetization tool; however, NFTs are a really important user engagement tool for them to share their vision and work with a highly captive and invested audience. We think we’re the best partner to help them amplify their hard work and bridge them into the NFT ecosystem.”
A prize pool for traders
Magic Eden announced that a leaderboard would be posted across media channels to determine which users are trading NFTs from the collection listed by Mint Madness. It stated that the top 10 traders in the secondary market on the Polygon blockchain shall join a price pool of 20,000 MATIC. The winner shall receive a reward of 4,500 MATIC.
The release said that 13 projects on three different blockchains will be involved in Mint Madness. Nine of these projects are built on the Polygon network, three are on Ethereum, and one is on the Solana blockchain. These are projects that are in traditional gaming but have increasingly adopted Web3 with its attendant benefits, such as NFTs and in-game collectibles.
A March of free mints
The report said that the first projects on the line for rollout in the Mint Madness program are Planet Mojo, Meta Star Strikers, and Alaska Gold Rush. All these will participate in the free mint in the first week of March.
The statement added,
“Shrapnel, a popular AAA FPS title, will be the lone project to feature a cross-chain mint through Magic Eden, launching on Polygon on March 15 and Ethereum on March 22.”
