On-chain detective Zach XBT was sued for defamation by MachiBigBrother

ZachXBT, the on-chain sleuth responsible for exposing several scams in the digital asset space, is appealing for support from the crypto community. The reason is that he has been sued for defamation by MachiBigBrother, a.k.a. Jeffrey Huang.

A post made by ZachXBT on Twitter, detailing the defamation suit brought against him by Huang, stated,

“Today Machi filed the defamation lawsuit. The lawsuit is baseless and an attempt to chill free speech. I intend to fight back and defend free speech.”

Chronicled a string of failed crypto projects

The issue in contention is a June 2022 publication where Zachary (ZachXBT) profiled the activities of Huang in the crypto space. The publication titled 22,000 ETH Embezzled and Over Ten Projects Failed: The Story of Machi Big Brother (Jeff Huang), among other issues, chronicled a string of failed crypto projects founded by Huang. It also pointed to the suspicion that these projects were pre-determined rug pulls.

In the publication, ZachXBT wrote:

“Then in February, Andrew threw his support behind Jeff again, even though at this point, Cream was pretty much dead. It’s sad to see people turn a blind eye to obvious rugs when money is involved, especially when the parties involved have financially harmed others at significant cost, whether it is through 10+ low-effort projects or by helping embezzle 22,000 ETH.”

For the truth to survive

Zachary (ZachXBT) described the imminent legal battle as a case of David and Goliath, considering the vast amount of money at Huang’s disposal. He therefore called for donations from the cryptocurrency community in aid of the legal fees for his defense, which he said could exceed $1 million.

Zachary wrote:

“This is a classic David and Goliath story. My understanding is that Machi is very wealthy. I am not. He is using his money to try to silence me. I’m asking for your help so this doesn’t happen and the truth survives.”

In concluding, he said,

It is sickening to see it come to this, but I knew one day this would happen, as the price of telling the truth is that sometimes people dislike what you say. I have always kept my research as objective as possible and let the data and historical record speak for themselves.
