Tesla Cars Will Recognize Horses And Other Animals Soon – Elon Musk

Tesla cars will soon start recognizing horses says Elon Musk, the company CEO and founder. Musk made the assertion in a Tweeter post he made on April 29. He stated that Tesla cars already have the ability to recognize the presence of an animal close by, even though they do not yet have the ability to differentiate which animal it is.

He made the comment in response to another post by cbiggs who wrote:

Could we get the Tesla software to better recognize horses in the drive thru..at Whataburger? This is Texas you know.

Musk added that with ongoing development of the electric vehicles, that Tesla cars will be able to identify horses soon. He added that plans are in the works to give Tesla cars the ability to identify other animals such as dogs and cats.

Musk said that Tesla cars have the ability to sense that animals are nearby but that the sensors the company is working on will enable the cars to know exactly which animal is within the vicinity of the Tesla vehicle.

Even though Musk thinks that the innovation is a big deal, some comments on the post show that people are not very impressed. A comment from one of his followers, DK @toottootchoo stated that it was a lot more better clearing the roads by using automation than programming animal recognition into Tesla car systems.

According to DK:
“That seems like a lot of unnecessary computing. Wouldn’t it make sense to clear the road and only have automated cars on it?”

Musk has been in the news for acquiring Twitter. He hopes to make the platform pro free speech, unlike under the management of Jack Dorsey, under whose watch the micro-blogging platform permanently ban proponents of opposing views.
