The Slovenian Tourist Board (STB) partnered with the Julian Alps Association says a report on Friday, June 2, 2023. The activities lined up for the program included the issuance of unique blockchain collectibles in the form of non-fungible tokens. Called The Ultimate Julian Alps Sensory Adventure, the 15 NFTs unlock opportunities for the holders. The release said that the NFTs were listed on Vandri, a tourism platform in the country.
Promoting tourism using NFTs
The concept was designed to create awareness for the tourism industry in the country while aligning it with the latest technological trends. It also raises awareness about conservation issues in the Julian Alps, says the report.
The conservation event was first announced in November 2022 at the World Travel Market. The program incorporated the blockchain souvenirs planned for selected journalists, who would in turn contribute to spreading awareness after attending the one-time event. The tourism event was aimed at creating awareness about two endangered species in the region.
Preserving endangered species in the Alps
The purpose of the event is to highlight the need for digital tourism while pointing out the two endangered species in the Julian Alps. These are the Cock-of-the-Woods (Western capercaillie), said to be the largest member of the grouse family in Slovenia, and the Queen of the Alps (Alpine eryngo), a rare protected flower. The release said that the event also emphasized the need for balance in nature. Participants were treated to therapeutic yoga sessions, guided tours, and other activities.
The report added that:
“The one-time multi-sensory adventure proved to be a great success through the guided tours, breathtaking nature, and panoramic boat rides around Lake Bled, complemented with food from some of Slovenia’s top chefs.”
The idea behind the concept is to develop smart tourism in Slovenia through the incorporation of blockchain technology. It also hopes to draw attention to the endangered species while positioning the STB as a strong proponent of technology-based tourism that preserves traditional values.
